Our Client is seeking a highly skilled and design-oriented Senior/Staff Software Engineer - Design to join its engineering team. This role is ideal for an engineer who combines strong frontend development expertise with exceptional visual and interaction design skills and is passionate about creating polished, intuitive, and high-quality digital products.

The successful candidate will own the end-to-end design and implementation process, from wireframing and visual design in Figma through production-ready React and TypeScript development. The ideal candidate will bring a strong engineering background, deep attention to UI/UX details, and experience building scalable design systems and component libraries for sophisticated, data-rich products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design and implementation process, from initial wireframes and visual concepts in Figma through production-ready frontend implementation.
  • Build polished, intuitive, and highly responsive user interfaces using React and TypeScript.
  • Translate visual designs and interaction concepts into high-quality production code with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Build and maintain a scalable design system and component library using technologies such as shadcn/ui.
  • Develop accessible, production-quality React components with appropriate ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation, and focus management.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to translate complex mortgage workflows into intuitive, elegant, and user-friendly experiences.
  • Define and maintain visual and interaction design standards across the product.
  • Establish consistency across UI components, interaction patterns, typography, spacing, states, and other visual elements.
  • Work across the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through implementation and production delivery.
  • Continuously improve the quality, usability, accessibility, and visual polish of the product.
  • Make thoughtful technical and design decisions that balance usability, performance, maintainability, and development velocity.
  • Contribute to frontend architecture and engineering decisions while maintaining a high bar for visual and interaction quality.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to understand complex user and business requirements and translate them into effective product experiences.
  • Help evolve the design system and reusable component architecture as the product and organization scale.

    Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in a Design Engineer, Frontend Software Engineer, or Full Stack Software Engineer role.
  • Minimum 5 years operating at a Senior Engineer level or equivalent level of ownership and technical responsibility.
  • Strong background as a software engineer, ideally with a frontend-focused engineering profile.
  • Proven production-level experience with React and TypeScript.
  • Deep proficiency with Figma, including libraries, variants, auto-layout, and advanced design workflows.
  • Experience building and maintaining a design system and component library on top of a genuine production frontend engineering background.
  • Experience shipping production-quality software with strong visual and interaction design standards.
  • Strong understanding of frontend engineering principles, UI architecture, accessibility, and responsive design.
  • Ability to translate complex product requirements and workflows into intuitive user experiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and genuine passion for high-quality visual and interaction design.
  • Experience working in a high-growth enterprise B2B SaaS company with complex, data-dense interfaces or a high-growth consumer technology company known for strong visual design and animation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
  • Ability to independently own projects from initial concept through production implementation.
  • Portfolio or personal website showcasing high-craft visual and interaction design is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and building AI-native products.
  • Experience as a founder or co-founder.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an engineer first who also has an exceptional eye for design and product quality. This person should be equally comfortable working in Figma and a codebase, taking a design from initial concept through a polished production implementation.

The candidate should have a genuine frontend engineering background rather than being primarily a designer who has learned to code. They should demonstrate experience shipping production software, building scalable component systems, and maintaining a high standard for visual and interaction quality.

Candidates should be comfortable working in high-growth environments and taking significant ownership over both technical implementation and product experience. A strong portfolio or personal website demonstrating high-quality visual and interaction design is an important part of the evaluation process.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
